Brigitte Bailer-Galanda
Brigitte Bailer-Galanda (born Galanda ; born March 5, 1952 in Vienna ) is an Austrian social scientist and historian . She was the scientific director of the Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance (DÖW) and deputy chairwoman of the historians' commission of the Republic of Austria . Bailer-Galanda is honorary professor for contemporary history at the University of Vienna .
Life
Bailer-Galanda was born in 1952 as the daughter of a police officer in Vienna. In 1970 she passed the matriculation examination at the Bundesrealgymnasium Wien 2. From 1970 to 1974 she completed a degree in social and economic sciences (Mag.rer.soc. Oec. 1974) and from 1990 to 1992 a doctorate with Erika Weinzierl in history on the subject For Austria, reparation was not an issue ( Dr . phil. 1992) at the University of Vienna . In 1994/94 she became a lecturer at the Institute for Political Science. In 2003 she completed her habilitation with her thesis The Origin of Restitution Laws at the University of Vienna, where she then became a lecturer in contemporary history . In 2010 she became an honorary professor for contemporary history.
In 1979 she became a research assistant at the Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance (DÖW) and was Wolfgang Neugebauer's scientific director from December 2004 to April 2014 . In 2014 she was followed by Gerhard Baumgartner . Her main research interests are resistance to National Socialism , National Socialist persecution of Jews , restitution, right-wing extremism in Austria and Holocaust denial .
From 1998 to 2003 she was a member and deputy chairwoman of the Historians' Commission of the Republic of Austria . She is u. a. Board member of the Wiener Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies and the Association for the History of the Labor Movement . She is also a member of the Austrian delegation of the Task Force for International Cooperation in Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research . She is a member of the advisory board of the Wien Museum and the Topography of Terror as well as a member of the Austro-Russian Commission of Historians and the International Forum Mauthausen advising the Federal Minister of the Interior .
She is married and has three children.

- 1996: Willy and Helgaverkauf-Verlon Prize for Austrian anti-fascist journalism from the Documentation Archive of Austrian Resistance
- 1999: Bruno Kreisky Prize for the Political Book of the Dr. Karl Renner Institute
- 2013: Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria (Laudation: Friedrich Faulhammer )
- 2015: Marietta and Friedrich Torberg Medal from the Israelite Community in Vienna
