Michael Schwarzinger

Michael Schwarzinger (born June 10, 1955 in Feldkirch , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian diplomat . He was ambassador to Vilnius , Bucharest , non-resident ambassador for Malta and has been ambassador to Seoul since 2017 .

Life

Michael Schwarzinger studied German and English at the University of Innsbruck and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1978 to 1980 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth and from 1982 to 1984 as a lecturer at the University of Aston in Birmingham, Great Britain .

From 1984 to 1986 he completed postgraduate studies at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna .

In 1986 he was accepted into the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs (BMaA). Until 1987 Michael Schwarzinger worked as a consultant in the culture and consular sections. In 1987 he was employed as an attaché at the Embassy in Abidjan , Côte d'Ivoire. In 1989 he was posted to the Bern embassy as secretary . From 1992 to 1995 he was Counselor at the Austrian Embassy in Bucharest and from 1995 to 1997 head of the Department for Central Europe and EU Enlargement at the BMaA. From 1997 to 2001 he worked as an envoy at the permanent representation to the EU in Brussels, as a representative of Austria in the Council working groups for Central Europe and EU Enlargement, and during the Austrian EU Council Presidency in 1998 as chairman of RAG Central Europe. From 2001 to 2006 he was Ambassador to Lithuania and from 2006 to 2007 he was Head of the Unit for Coordination of the European Council and the General Affairs and External Relations Council.

From 2007 to 2010 he was Head of the Department for EU Policy Issues, Institutions and Institutional Issues and from 2010 to 2014 Ambassador to Romania and the Republic of Moldova , based in Bucharest. From 2014 to 2017 Michael Schwarzinger was an advisor in the Foreign Ministry for counter-terrorism and refugee affairs. From 2016 to October 2018 he was a non-resident ambassador for Malta .

Schwarzinger has been the ambassador in Seoul since 2017 .
