Michael Zumpe (* 1955 in Pirna , GDR ) is a German opera singer ( baritone ), pianist , conductor , singing teacher and choir director .

Life

Michael Zumpe was a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor from the age of ten and later, during his high school diploma, first choir prefect . He then studied singing, composition and drama at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden , his teachers were professors Christian Elsner , Siegfried Köhler and Marianne Fischer-Kupfer from the Komische Oper Berlin .

After completing his studies, Michael Zumpe was engaged as a lyric baritone at the Cottbus State Theater and at the same time taught singing at the Dresden University of Music for ten years. In addition to various other operas he has the "Papageno" from The Magic Flute , the "Tsar" from Tsar and Zimmermann , the "Figaro" from The Barber of Seville , the "Silvio" from The Bajazzo , the "Malatesta" from Don Pasquale and the "Harlequin" sung from Ariadne on Naxos . He has also got singing roles in various musicals such as Cats and Phantom of the Opera , has moderated major international musical events and participated in film recordings.

Guest performances have taken Michael Zumpe to the Semperoper in Dresden , Berlin , Saint Petersburg , Brussels and Los Angeles . In church the field of music he sang the bass roles in the Christmas Oratorio , in the B Minor Mass , in St. Matthew and St. John Passion and the baritone part in the German Requiem by Brahms . In church concerts and recitals, works by Schumann, Schubert, Brahms and especially their own compositions were on the program.

Michael Zumpe has been working as a freelance singer, pianist, conductor and choir director of various choirs since 2003. In 2005, the men's choir 1846 Ruhland took second place under his leadership at the 1st German Men's Choir Festival in Essen. On this occasion, Michael Zumpe was also named Germany's best choir director. In July 2006 Michael Zumpe sang the German national anthem in front of tens of thousands of visitors to the "Eastside 100" on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz .

In the Mozart year 2006, a “Mozart project” consisting of the Magic Flute and the unfinished Mozart Requiem was initiated and performed.
