Michael von Kaler
Michael Ingomar von Kaler zu Lanzenheim (born May 17, 1961 in Werne an der Lippe ) is a German sculptor .
Life
Kaler grew up in Werne an der Lippe and Voerde (Lower Rhine) . After high school and community service, he attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1980 to 1987 . He was a student of Ulrich Rückriem .
Kaler has lived in Cologne since 1987. He lives and works in a studio designed by Hans Schilling on the edge of the city garden .

The work consists of sculptures, installations, happenings and photographs. On his website Kaler divides his works into four categories with symbols: circles, rectangles, rows, other. The main materials used are metal, glass and wood. Many objects can be assigned to the Land Art movement . According to Hannelore Kersting, the principle of sequencing is persistently repeated in Kaler's art:
“Uniform elements are placed next to one another at regular intervals until they form a general basic shape; a row - now and then a whole field of rows - or a circle. […] The even arrangement is an easily understandable and artificial system of order that uncompromisingly places the individual elements in a regulated relationship to one another. [...] The serial sequence becomes a framework for sensual perception around which one's own thoughts and dreams are entwined. "
