Michael von der Mühlen

Michael von der Mühlen (born May 20, 1954 in Essen ) is a German engineer and ministerial official . From 2014 to 2017 he was State Secretary in the Ministry for Building, Housing, Urban Development and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

After attending elementary school and the municipal grammar school in Erkelenz , von der Mühlen began studying spatial planning at the University of Dortmund in 1972 , which he completed in 1977 with an engineering degree. He then worked in research at the Institute for Spatial Planning at the University of Dortmund. From 1978 to 1980 he completed his legal clerkship with a focus on urban development with the Arnsberg district government . In 1980 he passed the Grand State Examination .

From 1980 to 1983 von der Mühlen worked as a building officer at the Dortmund city ​​planning office and in 1984 moved to the Bielefeld city planning office as senior building officer . In 1986 he returned to his former office in Dortmund as construction director. From 1992 to 1994 he took over the management of the planning department at the city of Gelsenkirchen , where he acted as an alderman and city planning officer from 1994 to 2002 . From 2002 to 2014 he was City Director (Deputy Mayor) in Gelsenkirchen, where he was an alderman for planning, building, the environment and real estate.

On June 1, 2014, Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft appointed him State Secretary in the Ministry for Construction, Housing, Urban Development and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the summer of 2017 he left office.

He is a member of the SPD .

Michael von der Mühlen is married and has two children.
