The Congregation of the Holy Archangel Michael ( order abbreviation : CSMA for Congregazione di san Michele arcangelo ; also Michael order , Michaelites ) is a catholic religious institute .

history

In 1892 the Galician priest Bronisław Markiewicz founded the Society for Moderation and Labor , following the example of Don Bosco , which took on the burning social problems of the time. In particular, she got involved with orphans , for example through the establishment of reform homes.

In 1910 Markiewicz dedicated his work to the Archangel Michael . Since its recognition by the Archbishop of Krakow, Cardinal Sapieha , in 1921, the community has been given its current name "Congregation of the Holy Archangel Michael". The papal confirmation took place in 1966. The fathers and brothers of the congregation live according to the evangelical councils of chastity, poverty and obedience according to their own rules and statutes. Because of their close ties to Don Bosco , they are part of the Don Bosco family .

In addition to social work, the congregation also conducts retreats , works in missions and publishes religious writings. Today it is represented in Argentina , Curacao (Netherlands Antilles), Germany , the Dominican Republic , France , Italy , Canada , Austria , Papua New Guinea , Paraguay , Poland , Switzerland , Belarus , Ukraine and the USA . Kazimierz Radzik has been the superior general since 2004. From 1986 to 1992 Jan Chrapek was superior general.

Today the congregation is mainly devoted to youth and child labor as well as helping poor people. Superior General of the Congregation of St. Michael the Archangel in Poland is Dariusz Wilk.

Sisters of the Holy Archangel Michael

The female branch of the congregation are the Sisters of the Holy Archangel Michael, also Michaelite Sisters . They received episcopal recognition in 1928.
