Jan Chrapek (1948–2001), Bishop of Radom from 1999 to 2001

Jan Chrapek (born July 18, 1948 in Iwaniska , Poland ; † October 18, 2001 in Stare Siekluki near Radom ) was Bishop of Radom .

Life

The son of Joseph Chrapek and Genowefa b. After finishing school in 1962, Borecka entered the Congregation of the Holy Archangel Michael (CSMA). During his novitiate and afterwards he was entrusted with setting up youth work and was a teacher at a care facility for boys near Warsaw . He attended courses in film directing at Warsaw University . After his profession on August 26, 1969, he studied philosophy and theology in Cracow and attended lectures in the sociology of religion at the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Cracow . On May 3, 1975 he was ordained a religious priest by Ignacy Tokarczuk , Bishop of Przemyśl . From 1979 to 1980 he was prefect at the seminary in Cracow . He was in France and Belgium for scientific work , he was Rector in Rome from 1981 to 1983, in 1983 he worked in London and then attended several universities in the United States and Canada . 1984 to 1986 he was editor of the monthly magazine "Powściągliwość i Praca" ( restraint and work ). He was invited to lectures at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and at the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Krakow. In 1986 he was elected Superior General of the Congregation of St. Michael the Archangel and in 1989 Chairman of the Conference of Major Superiors of Men in Poland. In 1989 he became a lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science of the University of Warsaw .

On 25 March 1992 it ordered Pope John Paul II. To auxiliary bishop in Drohiczyn while he was appointed titular bishop of Cataquas appointed. He was ordained bishop on June 5, 1992 by the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland Józef Kowalczyk , co-consecrators were the Archbishops Kazimierz Świątek of Minsk-Mahiljou ( Belarus ) and Edward Kisiel of Białystok . His motto is: Quis ut Deus (“Who is like God”). On June 20, 1994 he became auxiliary bishop in Toruń . In 1999 he was the coordinator for the fifth Pope visit by John Paul II to Poland. On June 28, 1999, he became Bishop of Radom. On August 21, 1999, he was introduced to his diocese in Radom Cathedral .

Bishop Jan Chrapek died on October 18, 2001 in a traffic accident on the way back from Warsaw to Radom near Siekluki. He found his final resting place in the crypt of Radom Cathedral.
