The Roman Catholic Diocese of Drohiczyn ( lat. : Dioecesis Drohiczinensis , Polish. : Diecezja drohiczyńska ) is one in Poland situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Drohiczyn .
history
The Diocese of Drohiczyn was established on June 5, 1991 by Pope John Paul II from cession of the Diocese of Pinsk . It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Białystok as a suffragan .
The Diocese of Drohiczyn, in the eastern part of Poland, is located exclusively in the Podlasie area of today's Podlaskie Voivodeship . Already in the twelfth century the area belonged to the diocese of Płock , in the middle of the thirteenth century to the diocese of Chełm , from the beginning of the fifteenth century to the nineteenth century to the diocese of Luck , from 1850 to 1925 it belonged to the archdiocese of Vilnius , it came by order of Pope Pius XI. to the Diocese of Pinsk and in 1950 got an Apostolic Administrator based in Drohiczyn.
One of the greatest events in the still young diocese was the visit of Pope John Paul II on June 10, 1999.

The diocese coat of arms similar to the city coat of arms of Drohiczyn underlaid with the colors of the Podlaskie Voivodeship shows in field 1 on a red background a silver eagle with a golden beak and golden paws and a golden crown on its head; in field 2 on a blue background a knight on a white horse in silver armor and a balaclava, holding a silver sword with a gold handle in his right hand and a blue shield with a gold double cross on his left arm. The knight's spurs and the horse harness are golden, the saddle and the horse saddlecloth are blue and field 3 on a golden background is a white bull. In the middle Mary with the baby Jesus, the patron saint of the Drohiczyn diocese.
