The Diocese of Łowicz ( Latin Dioecesis Lovicensis , Polish diecezja Łowicka ) is in Poland located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Łowicz ( German Lowitsch ).

history

The diocese is one of the youngest Polish dioceses. It was founded during the restructuring of the Catholic Church in Poland by the Apostolic Constitution Totus Tuus Poloniae Populus of March 25, 1992 from areas of the Archdiocese of Warsaw , the Archdiocese of Łódź and the Diocese of Płock . The cathedral was elevated to a minor basilica on the occasion of a visit by Pope John Paul II in 1999 .
