'bʲawa' rafska ] is a city in Poland in the Łódź Voivodeship . It is located on the Białka River .
Biała Rawska [history
The first mention of a settlement comes from August 24, 1295. In 1313 the place was owned by Siemowita I, a son of Bolesław II. Between 1472 and 1498 the place received city rights . The 17th and 18th centuries were a period of decline for the city. In 1777 only 186 people lived in the village. As a result of the third partition of Poland , the city belonged to Prussia between 1795 and 1807 , then to the Duchy of Warsaw . The population rose from 467 in 1810 to 2,051 in 1900. In 1848 a synagogue was built. The population of Biała Rawska consisted of about 3,800 people, over half of whom were Jewish . In 1870 the city, which had been affected by the decline, lost its town charter. In 1916 the city received a primary school . In 1921 about 2,700 people lived in the city and four years later Biała Rawska regained its town charter. At the beginning of the Second World War , 3,119 people lived in the city. The Germans established a ghetto for the Jews in which about 6,000 people had to live. 1943 by the Nazis , the Jews of the city first deported to the ghetto Rawa Mazowiecka and then Treblinka extermination camp, the population of the town has been cut in half. The city was liberated from German occupation by the Red Army on January 17, 1945.
