Alojzy Orszulik SAC (born June 21, 1928 in Baranowice ; † February 21, 2019 ) was a Polish religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Łowicz .

Life

Alojzy Orszulik joined the Pallottine Order in Chełmno in 1948 . He made his perpetual profession on September 8, 1956. After his theological training from 1952 to 1957, he was ordained a priest on June 22, 1957 by the Archbishop of Gniezno and Warsaw , Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński . Further studies took him to the University of Lublin, where he was also professor of canon law from 1961 to 1989. From 1968 to 1993 he headed the press office of the Polish Bishops' Conference and played a key role in setting up the round table , the talks that took place in Warsaw between February 6 and April 5, 1989 during the transition from the communist regime to the democratic republic . From 1974 to 1994 he was an advisor to the Pontifical Council for Social Communication.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Siedlce and titular bishop of Vissalsa on September 8, 1989 . The Archbishop of Warsaw and Gniezno, Józef Cardinal Glemp , donated him episcopal ordination on December 8 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Bronisław Dabrowski FDP , auxiliary bishop in Warsaw, and Jan Mazur , bishop of Siedlce.

On March 25, 1992 he was appointed the first bishop of the Diocese of Łowicz, which was established on the same date. On March 27, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
