Krośniewice [ krɔɕɲɛˈvʲitsɛ ] (1941 Mittelstadt ; 1943–45 Kroßwitz ) is a town in the powiat Kutnowski of the Łódź Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with 8,387 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).

Krośniewice is 59 km north of Łódź and 15 kilometers west of the district town of Kutno .
history
The first mention of a settlement on the site of today's Krośniewice comes from 1387, when the place already had a parish church. The exact assignment of town charter to the site is not known, but it is assumed that it was before 1442.
In 1567 a fire destroyed almost the entire city. During the Second Partition of Poland , the place came under Prussian rule. With the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw , Krośniewice became part of the same in 1807 and part of Congress Poland in 1815 . In 1870 the place lost its town charter. At the end of the First World War , the place became part of Poland again and received its town charter back in 1926.
During an administrative reform, the city became part of the Płock Voivodeship in 1975 , and when it was reformed again in 1999 it became part of the Łódź Voivodeship.
