The Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel and the Holy Martyr Florian (Polish: Bazylika katedralna św. Michała Archanioła i św. Floriana Męczennika ) in the Warsaw district of Praga-Północ is the Catholic cathedral of the diocese of Warsaw-Praga on the Aleja Solidarności on the eastern bank of the Vistula .
history
The church was built from 1886 to 1904 in neo -Gothic style by Józef Pius Dziekoński in place of an older church from 1583. The church was blown up by the Wehrmacht in World War II and initially not fully built. It was not inaugurated again until 1972. With the creation of the Warsaw-Praga diocese in 1992, the church received the rank of cathedral and in 1997 was also given the title of minor basilica by Pope John Paul II , who also visited it in 1999.
Geographical location
The church is located in the north of Warsaw's Praga district on the eastern bank of the Vistula.
