The Michaelskapelle is a small votive chapel on the summit of the Michelberg, southeast of the town of Haselbach in the municipality of Niederhollabrunn in the Korneuburg district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Michael and, as a chapel of the Haselbach parish, belongs to the Stockerau deanery in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

In the place of the chapel there was probably a prehistoric settlement. The chapel was built in place of a pre-Christian place of worship. The first church in the village was probably built on this site in the 9th century. In the 18th century the old church developed into a place of pilgrimage. In 1867 a votive chapel was built in memory of the Austro-Prussian war .

architecture

The chapel is a structure with a fused structure and a semicircular apse. A facade tower with a pyramid roof rises above the portal side. The interior is vaulted. The vault rests on pillars.

Furnishing

In the round apse hangs a baroque image of St. Michael as an altarpiece.
