North at Northwest - woman Irmler is a German TV movie of Felix Herzogenrath from the year 2019. It is the eighth episode of the ARD - Police drama series North at Northwest with Hinnerk Schönemann and Henny Reents in the lead roles.

action

The gardener Sonja Irmler visits veterinarian Hauke Jacobs in his practice. Allegedly, her turtle Theresa fell off the table. Jacobs is amazed at the depth of the crack in the animal's armor, which does not match the course of the accident described. In fact, Harald Irmler had abused his wife for many years and had deliberately stepped on the animal. In a short-circuit reaction, his wife had rammed her hedge trimmer into his neck and killed him.

At the same time, the city official Bent Fehrenkamp is knocked unconscious by an unknown stranger while walking on the beach with his daughter Wiebke and his dog Fiete. When he comes to, there is no trace of Wiebke and the dog. Before Fehrenkamp can think clearly, his cell phone rings and someone demands 100,000 euros from him.

After Jacobs' former LKA colleague Timo Karstensen hit the escaped Fiete, Jacobs and local police officer Lona Vogt gradually tracked down the kidnapping, which was kept secret by Fehrenkamp. You learn that the required 100,000 euros corresponds exactly to the amount the civil servant received from his wife's life insurance. Fehrenkamp, who works at the Schwanitzer Kreisbauamt, had for a while toyed with the idea of putting this money into the construction company of his customer Martin Mahlke. He is now suspected of wanting to illegally obtain the capital he urgently needs with the help of the kidnapping.

During a search of one of Mahlke's construction containers disguised as an operational control, Jacobs and Vogt were unable to find any incriminating evidence, but a chain with Wiebke's name engraved on it. It belongs to Martin Mahlke's son Lenny, and that's how Jacobs and Vogt uncover the truth about Wiebke's kidnapping. Because Mahlke's son and Fehrenkamp's daughter are secretly a couple, and Wiebke and her boyfriend faked their own kidnapping in order to receive a share of the sum insured. The two wanted to run away to Morocco with the money to finally live their own life - far away from their fathers.

Jacobs and Vogt are too late, however: Fearing for his daughter, Bent Fehrenkamp placed the money at an agreed location without informing the two. Wiebke and Lenny manage to escape with their prey on a motorcycle. However, the money does not bring Lenny and Wiebke any luck. Due to a fateful chain of unfortunate circumstances, they race right into Frau Irmler's wheelbarrow, who has just dumped her husband, who had been sawn into pieces, in one of the graves she is looking after. Irmler loads the two injured into her wheelbarrow and locks them in the cellar. With the money she now wants to go on a trip around the world with her turtle. Before it comes to that, two grave candles lying in the grass bring the two investigators on the trail of Mrs. Irmler, whom they actually only want to question as a witness. But her visit to the somewhat strange woman escalates. Irmler pushes Jacobs, who belonged to Lenny and Wiebke in the basement, down the stairs, rams the policewoman waiting in the courtyard with a pair of secateurs and steals her service weapon. At the last moment Jacobs succeeds in persuading the woman running amok to understand. Irmler gives him the cellar keys and points the gun at himself. But it is not unlocked, so that Irmler doesn’t happen, but she collapses. Apathetic and absent-minded, the ambulance service takes her to a psychiatric clinic.

In a subplot, Jacobs' clinic assistant Jule falls in love with Timo Karstensen, who takes care of the dog he hit and so wins her heart. Both end up spending a night together without Timo telling her his true identity. Just like Jacobs, Timo will soon be smuggled into the Hamburg structures of the Italian mafia 'Ndrangheta. He had actually only come to Schwanitz to get a few more pieces of advice from his colleague. Jacobs speaks to Karstensen's conscience because he is afraid that Jule could endanger him. With a heavy heart Timo follows his friend's advice and tells Jule that he is already married. Bitterly disappointed, she turns away from Timo and doesn't ask any further questions.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv says: “Logic and realism are once again charmingly overridden in this series. The script is the first that was not written by Holger Karsten Schmidt. Niels Holle takes on a more weird tone than Schmidt last. In addition, Mrs. Irmler is more exciting, although the erotic-comedic moment is not neglected either. Direct hit! "

Tilmann P. Gangloff writes on evangelisch.de : “ Ms. Irmler [...] is worth seeing because the director apparently hits the exact tone that Holle probably had in mind. The film isn't a crime comedy, but it's not far from it. The author may have used the narrative attitude with which Alfred Hitchcock staged his classic Always Trouble with Harry (1955) as a model. When composing his film music, Stefan Hansen clearly oriented himself towards the work of Bernard Herrmann, Hitchcock's longtime resident composer. "
