Hauke ​​Jacobs is called by his office assistant Jule Christiansen because she has found a seriously injured man on the beach. Jule knows him from practice and knows that it is the real estate agent Sönke Keller, who wanted to settle his mother's estate here in Schwanitz. Police officer Lona Vogt tries to find witnesses to the incident around Keller and comes across a caravan on the beach. She knows that this belongs to the Müller. The son, Christoph Müller, is an active soccer player and often trains here on the beach. But supposedly the young man hasn't been there lately.

The autopsy of the victim reveals that Keller was kicked to death. The smallest gold particles were found on his clothes, which initially puzzled Vogt and Jacobs. In Schwanitz, on the other hand, this news excites the residents and they try their luck in a secret gold hunt. For the investigators, however, the only logical explanation that comes into consideration is that Keller was contaminated with the gold dust. Only the local dentist or the local goldsmith can do this. At the Schneider jeweler, Jacobs immediately noticed inconsistencies in his testimony and after Vogt was able to prove that Schneider was using the Uferstrasse at the time of the crime, he was considered the perpetrator. A motive opens up here, because Schneider is pathologically jealous and Keller had allegedly made advances to his wife. When cornered, Schneider admits to having found Keller lying on the floor. However, he only touched him and did nothing to him, but also drove away without helping him.

So Jacobs and Vogt are also investigating in a different direction. They owe the decisive hint to the bitch of the murder victim, who is running away from 18-year-old Max and his best friend Christoph, who is hoping for a great football career. When the two of them are questioned, it turns out that they have a relationship that they had to keep secret at all costs. One day, Keller would have “caught” her intimacy and blackmailed her. Fearing that the aspiring footballer's homosexuality could endanger his future career, Christoph had beaten up and kicked the real estate agent.

Jacobs finally comes out to his two friends Vogt and Christiansen as a former police officer and undercover investigator . His name is actually Hauke ​​Witt and after his testimony in court, the time of his “exile” is actually over. However, since he feels very comfortable here in Schwanitz, he wants to stay here and continue the veterinary practice. With this decision, however, he is putting himself and the people around him in danger. Because his testimony against members of organized crime , against whom he had worked undercover for four years, is not without consequences. A killer tracks down the “traitor” and suddenly appears in the practice. Jacobs only succeeds in escaping the assassination attempt with luck and his police skills. He shoots the assassin who is holding a knife to his assistant's throat.
