action

Hauke Jacobs' dog Holly discovered a red-haired female corpse on the beach. After the identity has been established, Lona Vogt drives to the victim's apartment, where she is attacked by a stranger and fatally injured. Jacobs, who anyway still holds half a position as inspector in Schwanitz because of Vogt's previous lengthy hospital stay, starts the investigation and is supported by Jule Christiansen. It is clear to both of them that the investigation into the murder of their friend Lona must be in direct connection with the death of the red-haired woman on the beach. What is certain is that the woman comes from Lübeck and was very likely strangled and thrown into the water by one of the ferries. Otherwise, however, there are no relevant traces.

It was only when Commissioner Winter arrived from Kiel that Jacobs and Christiansen found out that it was very likely a serial killer who met his victims through dating sites on the Internet. In doing so, he seems to specifically choose women who do not have any major social contacts. Against the will of Jacobs and Winter, Christiansen logs on to one of these dating portals to act as a decoy to set a trap for the murderer. It assumes that outwardly it corresponds to the type of victim chosen by the perpetrator. Since Winter had already lost a colleague from Kiel in the same way, absolute caution is required. Jacobs is extremely angry about Christiansen's arbitrariness, after all, he has just lost a good friend. But since he sees it as the only chance to catch the murderer of Lona, he accepts this approach. The first attempt to set a trap for the perpetrator on a ferry fails, however. But he now knows Christiansen's address and there is a showdown. Although Christiansen is observed by Jacobs and Winter, the man manages to turn them off. After Jacobs comes to, however, he is unable to help Christiansen, who is being strangled by the perpetrator. All of a sudden, however, Lona's father appears and shoots the man without hesitation. He had worked for the ferry line's insurance and thus had access to the data of his victims. After his last deed, he wanted to steal the victim's laptop from the apartment to cover up the traces of the dating portal . Here, however, he was surprised by Lona Vogts, which was her undoing. Her father says goodbye to Jacobs, since nothing can keep him in Schwanitz after the death of his daughter.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: “For this film, too, the director, Felix Herzogenrath, has found selected, atmospheric images for the third time in the series. It feels like 'In my own business' - beyond two extreme thrill sequences - has more long shots, i.e. moments of relaxation for the viewer and islands of calm for the main characters, than the previous episode. There are also magical-surreal elements. And for all three films, the following applies: The deep, 'authentic' feelings of the characters merge more than ever with the moods offered by the Baltic Sea landscape and the atmosphere created by the film language. "

Tilmann P. Gangloff wrote for evangelisch.de : “Many moments betray the attention to detail with which 'In my own cause' was created, especially since they do not need any big words: The dying Lona gaze falls on a photo of the apartment owner that shows them on the beach, accompanied by the sounds of the sea and the screeching of seagulls; her last thought is on Jacobs. He, in turn, sees the picture later, then he looks at the floor where the victim was - what a beautiful mutual declaration of love! This sovereignty and courage to take your time also characterize another scene: a car drives through a puddle. The camera waits calmly until the water has calmed down again and the reflection of a church can be seen; a perfect transition to the funeral service for Lona. "

In Quotenmeter.de Julian Miller evaluated: "The balancing act between thriller and comedy is well then to survive the hardest, when the main character has to overcome a particularly incisive tragic experience." The "fishing expeditions of the circumstances and the mourning of the main character" take this Krimi has almost an hour of broadcasting time "and although he succeeds in a few poignant moments here and likes the comparatively quiet, sincere approach without pseudo-emotional overrides, he wants to end almost every scene with an overly pronounced, banalizing and television film-like tie." According to the critic, the "strongly led characters should have endured moments of silence or the main character should meet their pain with sincere finality". "Instead, almost every thought on the processing scale has to be laboriously and non-filmically discussed." Furthermore, "against any psychological seriousness, and with a completely implausible ending - but a terribly simplified conclusion" of the story.
