Michail Maratowitsch Fridman (born April 21, 1964 in Lemberg , Ukrainian SSR , today Ukraine ) is a Russian - Israeli oligarch and one of the most influential business leaders in Russia.

Michail Fridman is, together with Pjotr ​​Aven, the main founder of the Alfa Group , one of the largest private industrial and financial groups in Russia. Life

Fridman comes from a Jewish family based in Lviv. His parents emigrated to Germany.

Fridman began his economic career as a student at the Moscow Institute for Steel and Metal Alloys with various jobs, some of which were still illegal in the former Soviet Union, such as window cleaning, running a discotheque and theater ticket business. In the more liberal era under Gorbachev , Fridman, who was employed in a mechanical engineering company at the time, founded cooperatives in various sectors, for example a real estate agency for foreigners, cigarette and perfume imports, a computer store , a laboratory for breeding white mice, a courier service and the company "Alfa Photo". In 1988, two years after graduating, he and other investors founded the “Alfa-Eco Group”, which experienced rapid growth due to its lucrative business areas. His partner Pyotr Aven, a fellow student of the later Prime Minister Yegor Timurowitsch Gaidar , was Russian Minister for Foreign Trade at the beginning of the 1990s and then became director of the “Alfa-Bank”. On March 16, 2014, the German energy group RWE announced the agreement with the LetterOne Group, which is controlled by a consortium of investors around Fridman and headquartered in Luxembourg, on the sale of its oil and gas subsidiary RWE Dea for 5.1 billion euros.
