Life

Chosin was drafted into the tsarist army in 1915 for military service, in which he took part in the First World War . He was soon an ensign and regimental adjutant . In 1918 he joined both the Red Army and the Communist Party . During the Russian Civil War he served as the commander of a rifle battalion , regiment and brigade in the south of the country and in the North Caucasus .

After the end of the civil war, Chosin attended courses for higher commanding training in the Frunze Military Academy , which he graduated in 1925. Afterwards he was in command of the rifle divisions and corps . He also graduated from the Lenin Military Political Academy in 1930 . From July 1937 he served in the Leningrad Military District, initially as an inspector, from December as deputy and in April 1938 as commander. From January 1939 he held the post of head of the Frunze Academy.

Chosin took part in the German-Soviet War from July 1941 , initially as commander of the rear area of ​​the reserve armies. This was followed by two posts on the General Staff in 1941 : Deputy Chief of General Staff, Commander of the Leningrad Direction. He then served as chief of staff in the Leningrad Front and commander of the 54th Army. In October 1941 he succeeded II Fedyuninsky as Commander in Chief of the Leningrad Front . In this post he was significantly involved in the battle for Tikhvin and the Volkhov battle . After the failure of the latter operation, Chosin was replaced by LA Goworow in July 1942 . Chosin commanded the 33rd and 20th Armies in 1942/43. After being in the rank of General Colonel was promoted, he served as deputy commander of the Western Front and in the meantime briefly as commander of an operational group of the northwestern front . During this time, the troops under Chosin's command took part in the battle in the Kursk Arch . From March 1944 he was reinstated as commander of the Leningrad Military District .

After the end of the war, Chosin headed various military educational institutions from 1946 to 1956. He then headed the courses and faculties of the General Staff Academy until he retired in November 1963.
