Michel Auder (* 1945 in Soissons , France ) is a French photographer and filmmaker . He lives and works in Brooklyn .

life and work

Michel Auder started taking photos at the age of 17. His fascination with images was inspired by Jean-Luc Godard and Andy Warhol . He started filming in the 1960s: "Video was a dream I was waiting for and as soon as it happened I got one." (taken from: Excerpts from taped conversations between Michel Auder and Mark Webber, 2000)

His films are in many private and public collections, for example in the Anthology Film Archives , New York, and have been shown at the New York Museum of Modern Art , the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Center Pompidou in Paris. In 2008 Auder showed his works in exhibitions at the European Kunsthalle in Cologne and at the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen. In November, the Frenchman won the “ New Vision Award ” at the CPH: DOX Film Festival 2009 in Copenhagen with The Feature (cooperation with Andrew Neel ) .

The feature

"The Feature" is Auder's greatest work to date. The 184-minute film shows the artist's life from the beginning of his creative process as a filmmaker to events from the factory scene in the company of Andy Warhol. Auder brings his memories and observations together in a collage-like film, thus creating a surrealistic variant of the biographical film. "The Feature" was shown at MOMA New York, the Anthology Film Archive New York and in 2008 at the Berlinale in Berlin.

“Usually, you eat, you get laid, you're worried about money, you have money, you're happy, you're sad, you cry, you have more sex, if you're lucky, and then, you know , there's nothing left in life, it's just what it is. ”- Michel Auder in The Feature
