Michel Mazuel

Michel Mazuel (* 1603 in Paris ; † 1676 location unknown) was a French classical instrumental musician and composer. His father was the instrumental musician Jean Mazuel the Elder . Michel Mazuel was a member of the French baroque family of musicians Mazuel .

life and work

In 1618 and 1626 Mazuel is recorded in Paris orchestral associations as "dessus de violon" or as "haute-contre de cornet". He also gave music lessons, which can be proven in rooms rented for this purpose. From 1643 to 1674 he was a member of the "24 violons du Roi". He then sold the position he took there to Pierre Huguenet . In 1641 Mazuel played the "haute-contre de hautbois" in the "Musique de l'Ecuria". In 1654 he was appointed “compositeur de la musique des vingt-quatre violons”.

Mazuel worked as an instrumental musician in orchestral performances of various works by Jean-Baptiste Lully .

As a composer Mazuel had composed a suite, an allemande and various ballet music in collaboration with Verpré and Louis de Mollier for Louis XIV .
