Michela Vittoria Brambilla (born October 26, 1967 in Calolziocorte , Province of Lecco ) is an Italian entrepreneur and politician of Forza Italia (since 2008 Popolo della Libertà ). In Silvio Berlusconi 's fourth cabinet , she was State Secretary to the Prime Minister with responsibility for tourism from May 2008 and Minister for Tourism from June 2009 to November 2011.

Political career

Michela Brambilla comes from a family of entrepreneurs who have been in the steel industry for four generations . After completing her studies in literature and philosophy at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan , she worked in 1991 as a television journalist for the Fininvest Group (now Mediaset ). She then took part as managing director of the family business Trafilerie Brambilla Spa and founded a company for the production of pet food ( Sal Spa ) with her father Vittorio Brambilla , of which she is the chairman of the board.

From November 2003 to March 2008 she was also the chairwoman of the young entrepreneurs' association in the retail business organization Confcommercio . In April 2006 she ran for the first time in the elections to the Italian Chamber of Deputies for Forza Italia in the constituency of Veneto 1 , but unsuccessfully. On November 20, 2006, she founded the Circoli della Libertà (dt .: Circle of Freedom ) as the cultural and media base organization of Forza Italia and was elected its chairman. In this context, she was in charge of the launch of the party-affiliated satellite channel TV della Libertà ( Television of Freedom ) in June 2007.

In the early elections in April 2008, she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the Emilia-Romagna constituency. In May she appointed Silvio Berlusconi to the Prime Minister's office as State Secretary responsible for tourism.

criticism

In 2009, Brambilla came under fire when she greeted a police festival in Lecco with a stretched right arm - the Mussolini greeting . Brambilla stated that she merely raised her hand and did not intend to deliver the fascist salute.
