Michele Bartyan (born June 23, 1980 in Lodi ) is a former Italian racing driver .

Career

Michele Bartyan has both Italian and Austrian citizenship , but since he had an Italian driver's license, according to the rules of the FIA in motorsport, he is Italian. Bartyan began his career in 2000 in the Italian Formula Ford Championship and competed in car races until the end of 2006. In addition to Formula Ford, he was third in the overall standings, and in his first year of racing he took part in the Italian VW Lupo Cup , which he finished ninth overall. 2001 drove another year in Formula Ford and this time came second overall in the domestic championship. The further path to the higher monoposto classes was supposed to lead through Formula Renault , but a lack of sponsorship money prevented further progress.

Bartyan therefore rose in 2004 in the cheaper European Touring Car Championship . He drove an Alfa Romeo 156 there and was fifth overall in the Independents Trophy at the end of the year.

In 2005 he became a works driver at BMS Scuderia Italia and achieved 12 podium finishes (including four wins) in 18 starts in the Le Mans Series and the Italian GT Championship. In the Le Mans Series he won the overall drivers' championship in the GT1 class together with Christian Pescatori and Toni Seiler . He also competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race for Scuderia . In 2006 he won the overall ranking of the International GT Open and retired from racing at the end of the year at the age of just 26.
