Michele Gismondi (born June 11, 1931 in Montegranaro ; † September 4, 2013 there ) was an Italian racing cyclist .

career

Gismondi became a professional road cyclist at the age of 21 . The first entries in the results lists come from November 1952: third in the pair time trial Trofeo Baracchi with partner Fausto Coppi , tenth in the GP del Mediterraneo stage race, both in Italy. In these races he wore the jersey of the Italian cycling team Bianchi-Pirelli, where he was under contract until 1955. 1953 Gismondi first appeared at the road world championships and at the Giro d'Italia . He finished fourth at the World Championships, at the Giro, where he won the team time trial of the 11th stage with the Bianci team, he came in 38th. At the GP Industria road criterion in Belmonte Piceno, Italy, he took his first notable victory.

While Gismondi was only able to place second at the road world championship in 1959, he drove eight tours of Italy between 1953 and 1960. He had his best Giro in 1955 when he was 13th. In his few placements in foreign starts, only 14th place stands out in the 1954 Tour de Suisse . He only appears once in the results lists of the Tour de France when he came in 30th in 1959.

After the Giro in 1960, which he finished in 24th place under contract for the Italian team Gazzola with the German Junkermann and Fischerkeller , the results for Gismondi also end. Without a contract he was still active as a professional until 1961.
