Michele Nicoletti

Michele Nicoletti (born November 19, 1956 in Trento ) is an Italian politician and scientist . He is a professor of political philosophy. In the Italian Chamber of Deputies he has been since the elections on 24/25. February 2013 as a member of the Partito Democratico . He is also a member and from January to June 2018 President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (see also list of Presidents of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe ).

Private life, education and activity

Nicoletti graduated from the University of Bologna philosophy . From 1991 to 2001 he was a professor at the University of Padua . Since 2001 he has been a full professor of political philosophy at the University of Trento . From January to May 2007 he was a Fulbright Distinguished Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame ( USA ). Since 2011 he has been director of the Antonio Rosmini Study and Research Center in Rovereto .

He lives and works in Trento and Rome. Nicoletti is married and has three children.

Political and parliamentary career

Since 2012 he has been a member of the Twelve Commission, an advisory body for the implementation of the Autonomy Statute of the Trentino-Alto Adige region in Italy, and was also Provincial Secretary of the Democratic Party of Trentino until March 16, 2014. In the elections from 24./25. In February 2013 he was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

He has been a member of the Italian delegation since 2013 and on August 6, 2014 Nicoletti was elected head of the Italian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (member until 2017). In this role he is a member of the Council of Europe's subcommittee on conflicts between member states, the subcommittee on external relations and the subcommittee on ethics. On January 22, 2018, he was elected 31st President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
