Antonio Rosmini
Antonio Rosmini Serbati (born March 25, 1797 in Rovereto ; † July 1, 1855 in Stresa ) was a priest , founder of an order , theologian, philosopher and is considered one of the last universal scholars . Since 2007 he has been a blessed of the Catholic Church .
Life
Antonio Rosmini targeted against the will of his father the priesthood at, studied in Pavia and Padua , and received on 21 April 1821 in Chioggia the ordination (plaque on the Chiesa della SS. Trinità ). In 1813 he was accepted into the Accademia degli Agiati in his hometown. He drafted a new statute that came into force in 1825 and was elected President several times. In 1828 he founded the Istituto della Carità on the "Calvario" in Domodossola , a religious order which is also known as the Rosminianer and which received its papal approval in 1839.
In 1848 he acted as mediator in the disputes between the Pope and the Kingdom of Italy, succeeding Pope Pius IX. when he had to flee to Gaeta in the Kingdom of Naples after an uprising , into his exile. Here, however, he was soon ousted from the papal court by Cardinal Antonelli. When his works on ecclesiastical reform ( The five wounds of the holy church ) and a constitution for the Papal States were put on the index in 1849 , not only his political activity came to an end, but also the consideration of elevating himself to cardinal status .
He had also acquired bitter hostility from various Jesuits , who submitted his philosophical writings to the papal index congregation. However, in 1854 the writings were declared not in need of censorship.
Rosmini spent the last years of his life in the order house in Stresa on Lake Maggiore . Of a contemplative nature, he now devoted himself above all to the management of his growing order and the development of a philosophical system. Since he always tried to unite religion and reason, he is still called the Italian Kant to this day , although he dealt consistently with Hegel in particular. What is tragic here is the condemnation of 40 sentences of his theological-philosophical literature by the decree Post obitum in 1887, 32 years after his death - a work of his Jesuit opponents, who even after his death were unable to reconcile with him and under Pope Leo XIII. came to influence. With the Second Vatican Council under John XXIII. started a positive re-evaluation of Rosmini. In 1994 Rosmini's beatification process was finally initiated. After Pope Benedict XVI. on June 26, 2006 had established the heroic virtues of Rosmini, the beatification took place on November 18, 2007 in Novara .
