Michele Petruzzelli OSB (born August 1, 1961 in Bari , Italy ) is a Benedictine and abbot of the territorial abbey of Santissima Trinità di Cava de 'Tirreni .

Life

Michele Petruzzelli entered the Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria della Scala in Noci (Bari) at the age of 24 and made temporary profession on November 21, 1987 . In 1990 he made his perpetual profession. After monastic and theological studies in the Praglia Abbey , at the 'Santa Fara Theological Institute' in Bari and at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo , where he graduated with a licentiate in Monastic Theology, Petruzzelli received the sacrament of ordination on August 5, 1998 . In the Noci Abbey , his professed monastery, he then held various monastic offices, such as confessor, Foresterar and Zellerar . Most recently, Father Michele was prior and novice master of the abbey.

On December 14, 2013, Pope Francis confirmed the election of Michele Petruzzelli as Abbot of Santissima Trinità di Cava de 'Tirreni. Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe , Metropolitan Archbishop of Naples, gave him the abbot's benediction on January 26, 2014 in the Abbey Cathedral of Cava .
