Michelle Volkenrath took part in the 2000 World Junior Championships in Hochfilzen and was 33rd in the sprint and 29th in the pursuit. A year later she missed in Khanty-Mansiysk as fourth place in the individual against the Russian Julija Makarowa by just one place a medal. This she won as third place with Jenny Adler and Romy Beer in the relay race. In the season between the two world championships, she won in Ridnaun a race of the Junior European Cup .
