Mohammad Javed Miandad Khan (born June 12, 1957 in Karachi ), better known as Javed Miandad ( Urdu جاوید میانداد), is a retired Pakistani cricketer . In 34 tests and 62 One-Day International Matches (ODIs) he was the captain of the Pakistani cricket team.
Career
Javed Miandad completed a total of 124 tests for the Pakistani national team during his career, in which he scored a total of 8832 runs or 52.57 runs per wicket . Along with Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, he is one of only three Pakistani batsmen who have achieved at least 50 runs per wicket in tests.
In his test debut in 1976 against New Zealand in Lahore, he scored 163 runs. In the same series of tests, Miandad scored 206 runs in Karachi. At this point he was 19 years and 140 days old. Javed Miandad is still the youngest player to achieve at least 200 runs in a test. He completed his last test for Pakistan in December 1993 against the team from Zimbabwe.
During his career, Javed Miandad also took part in 233 ODIs for the Pakistani team, in which he achieved a total of 7,381, or 41.70 runs per wicket. His performance in the 1986 Australasia Cup final against India is legendary . Pakistan took four runs and had only one ball left. Miandad scored a six and Pakistan won the tournament. Along with Fawad Alam , Zaheer Abbas and Mohammad Yousuf, he is one of only four Pakistani players who have an average of at least 40 runs per wicket at ODIs.
Javed Miandad participated with the Pakistani team in six cricket world championships ( 1975 , 1979 , 1983 , 1987 , 1992 and 1996 ). In 33 World Cup matches he scored a total of 1083 runs (43.32 runs per wicket). He and his team reached the semi-finals three times (1979, 1983 and 1987). In 1992, Javed Miandad and his team won the first and to date only title for Pakistan.
Others
In 1982 Javed Miandad was named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year. In 2009 he was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
