Michelle Wright (born July 1, 1961 in Chatham , Ontario ) is a Canadian country singer.

Career

Michelle Wright has been one of Canada's most successful country musicians since her debut in 1988. She celebrated her greatest successes in the 1990s when she also hit some hits in the US country charts. With her best-known song Take It Like a Man , she had a top 10 hit here in 1992. Between 1990 and 2000 she had a total of ten US hits, New Kind of Love (1990) and He Would Be Sixteen (1992) still made it to the top 40. In addition, she was the first Canadian to be recognized as a newcomer at the 1992 ACM Awards of the year.

Wright's successes in her native Canada were far greater. From 1986 on, she got a number of big hits in the country charts. Take It Like a Man , One Time Around (1992), Guitar Talk , One Good Man (1994), Nobody's Girl and Crank My Tractor (1996) were number one. It was last listed in the top 10 in 2000 with I Surrender .

The most important country award in Canada, the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA), Wright received several times. Between 1990 and 1993 she was named Singer of the Year four times. In 1991, her second album, Michelle Wright, was named Album of the Year. After kd long she was only the second singer to succeed.

At the end of 1999, Your Love was released , a collaboration with New Age musician Jim Brickman , which aimed at the adult contemporary market and reached the top 20 in the associated US charts.

Wright's success waned from 2000, but she released other albums at longer intervals and is still touring regularly today. The highlights of her tour calendar from 2000 onwards were her first Australian concerts in 2004, a trip to Afghanistan in 2006 to play for Canadian and NATO troops, annual Christmas concerts, appearances in 2009 in Great Britain and France and, from 2010, the Canadian Premiere of their WrightSongs program. Wright presented her songs here in an intimate, acoustic setting. This was also recorded on their first live album in 2011.

In 2011, Wright was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame . In 2015 he was inducted into the North American Country Music Hall of Fame.
