Michika Fukumori

Michika Fukumori (* 1969 in Mie ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( piano ) who works from New York City .

Live and act

Fukumori grew up on the main Japanese island of Honshū and began playing the piano at the age of three. Over the next three years she began to compose and interpret her own music. After studying classical composition technology at the college of the Aichi Prefectual University of Fine Arts and Music , she studied with the renowned Japanese pianist Hiromasa Suzuki and began to work professionally as a pianist in jazz clubs in and around Tokyo.

In 2000 Fukumori moved to the United States, where she studied with Ron Carter and Geri Allen at City College of New York and took private lessons with Steve Kuhn ; In 2003 she completed her master’s degree. With her trio, which included David Finck and Billy Drummond , she released the debut album Infinite Thoughts (Key Click Records) in 2004 ; Quality Time (Summit Records) followed in 2016 , also with a trio (with Drummond and Aidan O'Donnell ). In 2018 she released a solo album with Piano Images . She toured the USA and Japan several times with her trio and her quartet. She continued to work with Sheila Jordan , Chieko Tsutsumi, and Tatsuya Sato.
