Mickiewicz Battalion
The Mickiewicz Battalion in the International Brigades , like the Dąbrowski Battalion and the Palafox Battalion, was a predominantly Polish battalion in the Spanish Civil War . It was named after the Polish poet and patriot Adam Mickiewicz .
The battalion emerged from the Mickiewicz Company of the Palafox Battalion . The company was set up on November 18, 1936 in Albacete , the training camp of the International Brigades. The Mickiewicz Company was first assigned to the Chapayev Battalion . The battalion became part of the XIII between October 4 and 27, 1937 . International Brigade ( Dąbrowski ) and was given the designation N o 11 which was previously assigned to the Louise Michel Battalion .
On September 24, 1938, the government of the Spanish Republic had to dissolve the International Brigades , partly because of pressure from the League of Nations . The Mickiewicz battalion was part of the XIII up to this point. International Brigade ( Dąbrowski ).
