The Mickle Iceland is a very small island , which is about 1.6 km south of Flagstaff Point near the west coast of the Antarctic Ross Island lies.
The island was discovered and mapped by participants in the Nimrod Expedition (1907-1909) of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton . The island got its name as an ironic allusion to its insignificant size, since "mickle" is a slang word for "big" in English.
