Micranthocereus dolichospermaticus is a species of the genus Micranthocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet describes the long, narrow seeds.

description

Micranthocereus dolichospermaticus grows with a columnar bluish shoot and reaches heights of up to 2 meters. The shoot has a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. There are about 30 slightly humped ribs . The oval areoles are covered with bright brown wool. The 6 to 8 straight, protruding central spines are yellowish, gray with age and are up to 2.5 centimeters long. The numerous radial spines are between 4 and 7 millimeters long. The cephalium is up to 35 inches long and 65 inches wide. It consists of white to cream-colored wool up to 4 centimeters long and bright red to dark red bristles up to 5 centimeters long.

The cylindrical, lilac-colored to pink or orange-pink flowers open at night. They are up to 2.5 centimeters long and have a diameter of 1.1 centimeters. The berry-like, light pink fruits are 1.8 centimeters long and 1.4 to 1.6 centimeters in diameter.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Micranthocereus dolichospermaticus is distributed in the Brazilian state of Bahia in the area of Bom Jesus de Lapa . The first description as Austrocephalocereus dolichospermaticus was published in 1974 by Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo (1917-1999). Friedrich Ritter placed them in the genus Micranthocereus in 1979 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN from 2002 the species as "was Data Deficient (DD) " d. H. with insufficient data. In 2013 the species is known as " Near Threatened (NT)". H. classified as low risk.
