Microgadus proximus (derived from the English common name dt. Pacific Tomcod ) is a fish of the family of cod . The species is native to coastal waters of the North American west coast, from the southeastern Bering Sea to northern southern California (USA). The Pacific tomcod reaches a length of up to 30.5 cm.

The Pacific tomcod's diet includes anchovies, shrimp, worms, and other small marine invertebrates.

Use as food fish

Like other fish from the cod family, tomcods are also suitable as food fish . However, the Pacific tomcod is of no relevance for commercial fishing. The species is not specifically fished because the fish are comparatively small. However, it is occasionally caught by recreational anglers.
