Microhyla picta is an amphibian of the family -mouthed (Microhylidae).

features

The species reaches a length of 26 millimeters. The upper side of the body is light rust brown with large dark brown, finely whitish-lined spots, one pair between the eyes and three spots on the back. The sides of the head are dark with a light slash from the eye to the base of the arm. The sides of the trunk are light with irregular, small, somewhat crooked, brown longitudinal spots. The upper and lower legs are banded across. The front head is shorter than the diameter of the eye. The interorbital space is hardly wider than an upper eyelid. There are two large, strongly laterally compressed metatarsal cusps. The tibiotarsal joint extends between the shoulder and the eye when the hind leg is placed forward against the body.

Occurrence and systematics

Microhyla picta was first described by Ehrenfried Schenkel in 1901 . The species is only known by its holotype , which originates from southern Vietnam . The type locality of this specimen is unknown, but Microhyla picta , like other species of the genus , may inhabit forests and spawn in stagnant waters.

Danger

Microhyla picta is classified by the IUCN as “Data Deficient” (insufficient data basis). If it is actually found in forests, it could be threatened by increasing deforestation in Vietnam.
