Microhyla is a genus of amphibians from the close- mouthed frogfamily(Microhylidae). The genus belongs to the subfamily of narrow-mouthed frogs in the narrower sense (Microhylinae).
description
The pupils are round. The tongue is elliptical, with entire margins and freely liftable at the back. Palatine teeth are missing. There are one or two palatal folds in front of the throat. The eardrum is invisible. The fingers are free. The toes are free or webbed . However, these do not intervene between the metatarses of the 4th and 5th toes. The tips of the fingers and toes are pointed and more or less widened. They have simple, bony terminal phalanges. The precoracoid and the omosternum are absent. The sternum is cartilaginous. The transverse processes of the sacral vertebra are moderately widened.
Occurrence
The genus occurs from northern Pakistan via India and Nepal as well as Bangladesh to Sri Lanka in the south. In Southeast Asia , the genus is distributed from Myanmar through the states of Indochina and the Malay Peninsula to the islands of Sumatra , Borneo , Java and Bali . In East Asia, the distribution area extends from southern China, Taiwan and the Hainan Islands to some islands in the Philippines and the Japanese Ryūkyū Islands .
The little frogs mostly live in the leaf litter on the ground.
