Microrasbora ( size : "micron" = small + Rasbora ) is a genus of very small South Asian danioninae . Of the two species in the genus, the type species Microrasbora rubescens occurs endemically in Burmese Inle Lake , the second species, Microrasbora microphthalma, lives in the Nanwan River in the southern Chinese province of Yunnan .

features

Microrasbora species are only 2.6 to 3 cm long. Your body is elongated and flattened on the sides. Microrasbora differ from the similar genera Brachydanio and Rasbora by the lack of a lateral line and a symphysis button at the tip of the lower jaw, and from Brachydanio by the lack of barbels . The scales of the Microrasbora species are large and transparent.

Way of life

Microrasbora species live in large swarms in dense vegetation on the shores of Inle Lake ( M. rubescens ) or in small mountain streams over sandy and stony soils ( M. microphthalma ).
