history

The POS system manufacturer Micros Systems was founded in 1977 under the name Picos Manufacturing, Inc. and changed its name to Micros Systems, Inc. in 1978.

The hotel software Micros Fidelio was developed in 1988 by Dietmar Müller-Elmaus company Fidelio. After the American Marriott group showed interest in the hotel software and Müller-Elmau gained a foothold in the USA, Micros feared that Müller-Elmau could also become active in the area of cash register systems. In 1993 Micros bought a ten percent stake in Fidelio with the option to take over all company shares. Five years later, Micros exercised the option and Müller-Elmau was unwilling to continue without complete freedom of choice. Müller-Elmau received the largest share of the 55 million D-Mark purchase price. The company employs around 700 people at its headquarters in Columbia , Maryland . Micros Systems sells its products with the help of a network of 45 subsidiaries and 90 sales partners in 50 countries and achieved total sales of around 1.2 billion US dollars in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2013.

In mid-2014, Oracle acquired Micros Systems for $ 5.3 billion.
