The Microstromatales are a group of smut fungi (Ustilaginomycotina) and like most smut fungi are parasites of plants .
Features and way of life
The representatives of this order are characterized by local interaction zones with the host without an interaction apparatus compared to the other orders. They do not form teliospores . The basidia grow outside through the host's stomata and release their spores on the leaf surface. The Microstromatales have simple septal pores .
Systematics
The Microstromatales belong to the Exobasidiomycetes . According to Begerow et al. (2006) they represent the sister taxon of the Malasseziales and are subdivided as follows:
-
Microstromataceae
- Microstroma
- Rhodotorula bacarum ( anamorphic )
- Rhodotorula phylloplana (anamorphic)
- Sympodiomycopsis (anamorphic)
- Quambalariaceae have a simple doliporus.
- Quambalaria (possibly anamorphic)
- Volvocisporiaceae have strongly septate basidiospores
