Robert Bauer (mycologist)

Robert Bauer (* 1950 ; † September 8, 2014 near Neckartailfingen ) was a German mycologist . He was a specialist in the field of rust fungi and Ustilaginomycetes . His botanical author's abbreviation is " R.Bauer ".

Life

Bauer studied biology at the University of Tübingen during the 1970s . Due to his interest in plants and fungi, he completed his doctorate in 1983 on the subject of "Experimental ontogenetic and karyological investigations on Uredinales". He then worked as a research assistant at the chair for “Special Botany and Mycology” (today: “Evolutionary Ecology of Plants”) at the Institute for Evolution and Ecology at the University of Tübingen.

Bauer published over 100 publications during his career, during which he was also heavily involved in university teaching. On September 8, 2014, he was recovered dead from Lake Aileswasensee .
