The Migros distribution center in Suhr AG (MVS) is a Swiss logistics company based in Suhr . It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives (MGB). The company, which has existed since 1999, supplies more than 600 Migros branches with food products , as well as around 300 Migrolino branches with the entire main range.
Business activity
The company is located in a building complex several hundred meters long in Wynenfeld northeast of the village center and has one of the largest and most modern high-bay warehouses in Europe with a capacity of 100,000 pallets . An average of 5,000 pallets are delivered to Migros every day, plus 1,200 trolleys for Migrolino. 48% of the procurement transports are made by rail and 52% by truck, while the ratio for distribution transports is 33% to 67%. The MVS has a railway hall and its own siding to the Zofingen – Wettingen railway line . In addition to the two main customers, MVS also offers services for customers outside the Migros Group. This includes the areas of food logistics, small-volume logistics, value-added logistics, warehousing, transport, distribution and quality management.
history
The company's history dates back to July 1, 1949, when the Migros Aargau Cooperative received its own operations center and was henceforth operationally independent from the Migros Basel Cooperative . The building with high-rise silo, cold room and attached office wing had a floor area of 1400 m² at that time. From 1959 the gradually expanded company also supplied the Migros Solothurn cooperative . When the two cooperatives merged to form the Migros Aargau / Solothurn cooperative in 1967 , the area was already 8,500 m². On September 24, 1986, a new building, 250 m long and 150 m wide, cost 100 million francs. On June 22, 1998, the Aargau / Solothurn and Bern cooperatives merged to form the new Migros Aare cooperative , which concentrated all of its logistics on October 1 at the larger Schönbühl distribution center .
The MGB decided to reorganize the concept of the distribution center in Suhr and founded an independent subsidiary on December 21, 1999. While the old building was being adapted to the new needs, an extension was built next door, which went into operation on June 5, 2002. A new logistics strategy, the central merchandise management and the standardization of the IT systems were groundbreaking. The company now had one of the most efficient distribution centers in Europe with order picking, a train hall and high-bay warehouse. It now specialized in supplying all cooperatives with dry goods and beverages. To supply Migrolino's convenience shops , it set up special small-volume logistics in 2011 and gradually expanded it until 2015. In 2014 the company set up a transport department with its own fleet of trucks.
