Miguel Ángel Pichetto (born October 24, 1950 in Banfield ) is an Argentine politician ( Judicialist Party ) and lawyer.

Life

After finishing school, Pichetto studied law at the Universidad Nacional in La Plata . After graduating, he worked as a lawyer in Rio Negro . In 1983 Pichetto was elected to the Sierra Grande City Council, of which he was Mayor from 1985 to 1987. In 1993 he was able to move into the Argentine Parliament as a member of the parliament, to which he was a member in the lower house until 2001. In 2001 he was elected as a senator to the Senado de la Nación , to which he has belonged ever since. Pichetto belonged to the Frente para la Victoria and supported the presidents Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Kirchner . He lost the 2007 gubernatorial elections in the province of Río Negro to Miguel Saiz .

In June 2019 it was announced that Pichetto would run for the electoral alliance Juntos por el Cambio as a vice-presidential candidate under incumbent President Mauricio Macri in the 2019 presidential elections. This opened the Macri electoral alliance for the first time to Peronist currents. The duo received only 40.37% of the vote in the election and had to admit defeat to the duo Alberto Fernández and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Pichetto is married and has two children.
