Miguel Filipe Machado de Albuquerque (* 4. May 1961 in Funchal ) is a Portuguese politician of the PSD , lawyer and writer . Since April 2015 he has been the President of the Madeira Autonomous Region .

As an author, Miguel Albuquerque has published works on international law and constitutional law in various newspapers and magazines, particularly with regard to the problems of local regional governments in Portugal. He was mayor of Funchal from 1994 to 2013 and member of the board of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities ( Associação Nacional dos Municípios Portugueses ). A passionate gardener, he is also a member of the Royal National Rose Society , the World Federation of Rose Societies, and the American Rose Society .

In 2012, Miguel Albuquerque tried the chairman of the PSD / Madeira, Alberto João Jardim , to dispute the leadership of the PSD Madeira, but lost in an internal vote of the party on November 2, 2012. In 2014 he ran again for the presidency of the party and defeated Manuel António Correia on December 29, 2014.

On March 29, 2015, Miguel Albuquerque won the regional elections of the Madeira Autonomous Region for the PSD / Madeira with an absolute majority (44.33% of the vote). Thus, he was also designated as the successor to the previous Regional President Alberto João Jardim.
