action

The notoriously dissatisfied postal worker Michel is overwhelmed with life. Even little things like finding a parking space pose unsolvable problems for him. When he retires, he has problems at home with his wife, who is threatened with divorce. Michel’s mother will also be placed in the retirement home after her husband’s death. When she runs away from there to go to the place of her childhood in Normandy, her son Romain, her grandson, follows with a postcard.

reception

The film-dienst describes the film as a "quiet, melancholy comedy with some absurd interludes that, despite the echoing themes of age, loneliness and crises of meaning, looks positively at life and advocates an effortless intergenerational contract". The film website kino.de judges that the “subtly staged feelgood movie” creates “with great tenderness the ingenious balance between laughing and crying, sadness and courage”. The Hollywood Reporter thinks that the "amiable, easily digestible family dramedy [...] will surely be forgotten in a few years", but does not fail to have the effect of "polished average entertainment". Claudia Lenssen from epd Film awarded 4 out of 5 stars and particularly praises the character of Romain, who “has all the sympathy for this generational comedy”, “in which the follies of the elderly make the maturation and serenity of the younger appear in the most beautiful light”. The film critic Hans-Ulrich Pönack thinks that the excellent actors ennoble the film, which is staged with “charming self-irony and a melancholy look”.
