Christophe Offenstein (born March 24, 1962 in Fontenay-aux-Roses ) is a French cameraman and director .

Life

Offenstein came to film as an electrician and eventually became chief electrician for cinema and television films. From the mid-1990s he worked as a cameraman and later as a chief cameraman. At first he worked primarily with Guillaume Canet , with whom he made the short films Je t'aim (1998) and J'peux pas dormir… (2000). Offenstein also did the camerawork for Canet's first feature film Bad, Bad Things (2002). In 2007 Offenstein received a César nomination in the Best Cinematography category for his performance in Canet's No Death Word . Other collaborations with Canet were Little True Lies (2010) and Blood Ties (2013). In the films Quand je serai petit (2012) and Cookie (2013), in which Offenstein acted as cameraman, his daughter Lolita Offenstein was also in front of the camera.

In 2012 Offenstein made his first own film as a director: Between the Waves with François Cluzet in the role of a sailor in the single-handed sailing regatta Vendée Globe came to the cinemas in 2013. Guillaume Canet played a supporting role in the film. Offenstein received a César nomination for the best debut film for Between the Waves in 2014 and finally won the film award in 2016 in the Best Camera category for Valley of Love .
