Miguel Faria Jr.

Miguel de Faria Jr. (born September 28, 1944 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian film director .

Life

He started out as a director in a late phase of Cinema Novo . His film Pecado Mortal ("Deadly Sin", 1970) was shown in competition at the Venice International Film Festival , and República dos Assassinos ("Republic of the Murderers", 1979) at the San Sebastian Film Festival (prize at the Cartagena Film Festival).

His film Stelinha from 1990 tells the story of a young rock singer who met his idol from his youth, a singer from the Música Popular Brasileira , who now lives in a shabby way. Faria Jr. was recognized for "" Stelinha "" at the most important Brazilian film festival, the Festival de Gramado , in the most important categories, including the "Best Picture" and the Audience Award.

In the 1990s he worked for state film institutions, and was increasingly active as a producer, u. a. Tieta do Brasil (1995, with Sônia Braga ). In 2001 he returned to directing with O Xangô de Baker Street , a film adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes - Pastiche novel by Jô Soares . In 2005 he made a film about Vinícius de Moraes .
