Miguel Terekhov

Miguel Terekhov (born August 22, 1928 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † January 3, 2012 in Richardson , Texas , United States ) was a Uruguayan-American ballet dancer and ballet teacher. Terekhov and his wife Yvonne Chouteau , one of the Five Moons , a group of Indian - American ballerinas , founded in 1962, the Oklahoma City Civic Ballet School of Dance at the University of Oklahoma .

Life

Terekhov was born on August 22, 1928, in Montevideo, Uruguay. His mother Antonia Rodriguez was a Charrúa - Indian so members of an indigenous people of South America , the native to Uruguay, Argentina and southern Brazil is. His father, Michail Terekhov, a former dancer, immigrated to Uruguay from Ukraine .

Terekhov met and married his wife Yvonne Chouteau when, like Chouteau, he danced for the ballet company Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo .

Terekhov died on January 3, 2012 at his daughter's home in Richardson, Texas, after complications from pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 83. He lived in Oklahoma City with his wife, who survived him .
