Mikael Wivel

Mikael Wivel (* 1946 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish art historian , journalist and non-fiction author .

Life

Wivel worked from 1974 to 1981 as an art critic for the newspaper Dagbladet Information and then switched to the newspaper Weekendavisen , for which he is also active as a journalist in the arts to the present day. He also published articles in the weekly magazine Fredag from 1985 to 1991 . In addition, he worked from 1986 to 2000 as a curator (inspector) at the Ordrupgaard Museum in Charlottenlund, north of Copenhagen . During his time at the museum he was involved in exhibition projects and accordingly published catalogs on French artists such as Edgar Degas and Èdouard Manet or Danish artists such as Niels Larsen Stevns and Vilhelm Hammershøi . In 1999 he received the academic degree Dr. phil. in art history. After his time at the museum, it was mainly devoted to Danish artists of the 20th century, for whom he wrote an overview, but also individual biographies, such as Carl-Henning Pedersen , Kurt Trampedach , Sven Havsteen-Mikkelsen , Per Kirkeby or Per Arnoldi . He also wrote books about Christians Købke and about church art in Denmark. In 2012 he received the NL Høyen Medaljen award from the Det Kongelige Akademi for de Skønne Kunster division of the Royal Danish Academy of Arts for his services .
