At the Police Championships in the United States, she finished second this year. In 2011, too, Mayer was not yet able to secure a challenging placement at the national championships. It was not until 2012, when she switched to light welterweight (up to 64 kg), that Mayer was able to prevail and became US champion. In the same year she won the Pan-American Championships with a final victory over Rosilaine Silva, Brazil (25:11) and was nominated for the World Championships in Qinhuangdao . Here, after victories over Laura Matthews, New Zealand (34:13), and Meena Rani, India (24:10), she reached the semi-finals, which she won against the future world champion Pak Kyong-ok , North Korea , with an extremely tight 24:25 points lost and won a bronze medal.

In 2013 Mayer switched back to the lightweight and could only be third at the national championships in April. In July she won the Golden Gloves . At the 2014 US Championships, Mayer lost to Queen Underwood in the final . After she was promoted to light welterweight, Mayer was able to win her second national championship title in 2015, but then failed in qualifying for the Pan American Games in the first fight. In the same year Mayer won the US trials and was able to take part in the American Olympic qualification tournament in Buenos Aires in March 2016 , which she won with a final victory over Victoria Torres, Mexico and thus qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

At the 2016 World Championships in Astana , Mayer was eliminated in the preliminary round against Yin Junhua , China (3-0).
